John J Cush, MD

Director of Clinical Rheumatology

Dr. Cush is the Director of Clinical Rheumatology for Baylor Scott & White Research Institute and is a Professor of Medicine and Rheumatology at Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas. He is board certified in both internal medicine and rheumatology. He is a Clinical Professor of Internal Medicine at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School.


Dr. Cush has been named one of the “Best Doctors in Dallas” by D Magazine for the last 10 years and has more than 27 years of clinical and research experience. Dr. Cush is devoted to patient care and clinical research. Experience, insight and candor have made him a frequently sought after educator and advisor. He has authored more than 100 medical and scientific publications and written two textbooks in Rheumatology (Rheumatology: Diagnosis and Therapeutics and Rheumatoid Arthritis: Early Diagnosis and Treatment).


He is the recipient of numerous awards including the R.B. Hingson Humanitarian Award, Teacher of the Year, Best Doctors in America, Texas Top Docs and Best Doctors in Dallas. He has held national leadership positions with the Arthritis Foundation and the American College of Rheumatology and has served on the Arthritis Advisory Committee for the US Food and Drug Administration. 




Kathryn Dao, MD, CCD, FACR

Dr. Kathryn Dao received her medical degree at UT Southwestern Medical School in 1999 and is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. She completed her internship and residency training in Internal Medicine at Washington University-Barnes Jewish Hospital in Saint Louis, Mo., where she authored and co-edited the Washington Manual Subspecialty Consult Series in Rheumatology.


In 2002, she returned to Dallas for her rheumatology fellowship at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. After completing her fellowship, she joined the Arthritis Consultation Center at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas. From 2008-2010, she served as the Associate Chief of Rheumatology at Texas Health Presbyterian, Dallas. In 2010, she joined Dr. Cush at the Arthritis Care and Research Center where she is actively involved in patient care, medical education and clinical research while fulfilling her duty as the Associate Director of Rheumatology Research at Baylor Scott & White Research Institute in Dallas.


Dr. Dao is dedicated to patient care and medical education and has been voted one of D magazine’s Best Doctors in Dallas by her peers (2007-2010). Her research in rheumatology has focused on lupus, gene expression and new drug development in rheumatoid arthritis and lupus.
