Education:
Ph.D. Biochemistry, University of Miami, Florida
American Board of Medical Genetics, Biochemical Geneticist
Research Interests:
• Novel treatments for fatty acid oxidation disorders and other metabolic disorders involving energy metabolism
• Expand the range of metabolic disorders that can be detected by tandem MS newborn screening
• Develop additional diagnostic tests for inborn errors of metabolism using HPLC/MS/MS and GCMS technology
Current Research:
• Biochemical responses (organic acids and acylcarnitines) in clinical studies of triheptanoin (anaplerotic substrate) for nutritional therapy of long-chain fatty acid oxidation disorders
• Develop HPLC MS/MS assays for different isomers of acylcarnitines for differential diagnosis of abnormal elevations seen in tandem MS newborn screening
