New Trends in the Management of Hyperbilirubinemia

Participants of this course will receive 1.4 CEU after completion.

The objectives include:
• Define Jaundice
• Discuss the mechanism of bilirubin production
• Explain the process of bilirubin conjugation
• Identify causes of neonatal hyperbilirubinemia
• Distinguish between pathologic and physiologic jaundice
• List risk factors for developing severe hyperbilirubinemia
• List methods used to treat hyperbilirubinemia
• Verbalize the new AAP guidelines for the management of hyperbilirubinemia
• Identify and infant's risk category for developing severe hyperbilirubinemia using the Bhutani graph
• Explain the consequences of hyperbilirubinemia
