Tech Transfer Opportunities

Baylor Research Institute's quest to bring innovative treatments from the laboratory workbench to the patient’s bedside often leads to commercially relevant inventions in the laboratory. The institute works closely with the scientists to determine when an invention is patentable, providing legal guidance and acting as the point of contact for companies interested in developing and commercializing the inventions.

To date, the institute has an
intellectual property portfolio of more than 530 issued and pending patents across 92 patent families. Research programs and proprietary technologies developed at the institute involve biomarkers and biosignatures, autoimmune disease, infectious disease, gastroenterology, and metabolic/orphan disease. Technology collaborations include Fabry disease biomarkers, pancreatic islet cell transplantation, gene therapy for diabetes, HIV and cancer vaccines, and inflammatory diseases. The institute has licenses with INSERM/ANRS, ARGOS, ImmuRx, B.Braun, Otsuka, Amicus and SBIBT.

In addition, the institute’s other assets include a strong, supportive, comprehensive parent organization in Baylor Health Care System and a supportive community in North Texas, as well as quality standards compatible with industry requirements.
