Baylor Scott & White Research Institute promotes and supports research that brings promising discoveries from the laboratory workbench to the patients’ bedside.
Serving more than 1.4 million patients each year through a network of more than 230 access points, including 26 hospitals, 21 ambulatory surgery/endoscopy centers, 31 satellite outpatient locations and 131 HealthTexas Provider Network physician centers, Baylor Scott & White Health offers a large and diverse pool of potential research participants.
The Dallas Clinical Trials Office (CTO), located at Baylor University Medical Center, serves as a comprehensive resource for initiating and conducting clinical trials for physicians and other investigators on the medical staff at Baylor hospitals and research centers. The office encourages research and assists investigators and representatives of the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and device industries in navigating the complex research arena.
The CTO benefits new and experienced investigators by assisting them in conducting research studies, managing research operations and improving operational efficiencies. The office hires and provides administrative space for research staff and assists the research team to ensure coverage when a research staff member is on leave. The CTO staff includes the medical director, director of clinical research, research manager, research nurses, clinical research coordinators and administrative staff. And with staff experienced in financial and regulatory compliance, the CTO is able to facilitate the placement of clinical trials at Baylor and often expedite their initiation.

Dynamic research environment
Baylor investigators are conducting more clinical trials than ever before. Currently, more than 1,000 new drugs, biologics and vaccines are under development. As a result, more than 15 federal agencies monitor research compliance. The government can issue monetary fines up to $250,000 and criminal charges against individuals for research compliance violations. The CTO helps investigators conduct research studies in compliance with government standards so the researchers can focus on their core competency: research.
