Abstract:

Multiplex protein arrays (Luminex) represent a powerful tool for high throughput monitoring of immune responses. However, this novel technology still suffers from many significant weaknesses.
- Different manufacturer kits provide different results for the same analyte.
- Large amount of data represents a bottleneck in the analysis process.
- The fixed costs associated with establishing a multiplex core render the methodology expensive.
We propose to establish at BIIR Dallas a Central NIAID Cooperative Centers Luminex Core Facility. This core will provide the following services to NIAID Cooperative Centers Investigators:
- Validate and standardize cytokine multiplex kits.
- Develop SOPs for assessment of cytokine levels in biological fluids.
- Develop novel methodologies for visualization and analysis of multiplex data.
- Assay samples at the lowest possible costs.
- Establish relationships with manufacturers.
- Organize Luminex technology training workshops.
The NIAID Cooperative Centers Luminex Core will offer state of the art Luminex technology to all Centers, permitting the generation of standardized data across all NIAID centers.
