The Division of Trauma, Critical Care and Acute Care Surgery at Baylor University Medical Center, part of Baylor Scott & White Health, is required to publish at least 20 trauma-related, peer-reviewed journal articles every three years to maintain its designation as one of only four designated adult Level I Trauma Centers in Dallas.
More than simply being able to maintain its designation, though, the division engages in research because it and its members are devoted to both better understanding their patients as well as improving the care the patients receive. This is evidenced by the fact that since 2013, the division has published an average of 18 peer-reviewed journal articles and 27 presentations annually. Our hospital coverage includes 21 counties, over 5 million lives and more than 2,400 patients treated annually.
60 Institutional Review Board-approved ongoing studies over the past three years
60 peer-reviewed journal publications over the past three years
130 national and local conference presentations (both poster and podium) over the past three years
10 trauma surgeons manage both the trauma service and critical care ICUs, as well as aiding general surgery
Nine manuscripts and 20 presentations on quality of life and psychological outcomes and interventions after traumatic injuries
Two manuscripts and six presentations on care and management of traumatic injuries
Two manuscripts and six presentations on the effects of caring for trauma patients
Two manuscripts and two presentations on factors influencing readmissions
One manuscript and six presentations on improving healthcare delivery and system improvement
