Transplant Surgery Elective

The Abdominal Transplant program at Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas (BUMC) is one of the largest. During this rotation, the student will be exposed to all realms of transplantation surgery, including the procurement procedure (“donor”) and transplants (liver, kidney and pancreas). Also, an essential part of our field is the postoperative care of the recipient, including ICU management. Finally, the student will attend our pre and post-transplant clinics to gain full understanding of transplantation medicine. The length of this elective is two or four weeks.

Night call is not required; however, operative cases at night and during the weekend are not uncommon, and attendance is encouraged.

Applications should be submitted through the Visiting Student Application Service (VSAS) at www.aamc.org/vsas. For general questions about VSAS at BUMC, please call Sarah Stein at 214-820-5546 or email at Sarah.Stein@BSWHealth.org.
