Family Medicine Conferences

Those participating in Baylor Family Medicine Residency at Garland program participate in a variety of didactic activities throughout their residency. Didactics are presented by the Family Medicine faculty and community preceptors. Residents also deliver didactics to develop their investigatory and presentation skills.

 

Thursday Afternoon Conference

 

Weekly Thursday afternoon conference offers presentations by faculty and guest professionals on didactic curriculum. Residents have several opportunities to present during their residency. Recurring conferences include:

  • Adult Case Conference
  • Pediatric Case Conference
  • Journal Club – includes formal didactic sessions, interactive workshops on efficient literature reviews and critical appraisals of individual research articles.
  • Core Family Medicine Lectures – monthly evidence-based, resident-led lectures cover foundational Family Medicine topics
  • Diabetes Improvement Team Meetings – every other month, resident-led sessions assess current care of patients with diabetes, identify opportunities for improvement and implement changes within the clinic.
  • Obstetrics Review – led by faculty, this quarterly review addresses relevant maternity care topics and identifies areas of improvement in current patient care.
  • Geriatrics/Nursing Home Review – quarterly case-based review, provides feedback on residents’ current care of nursing home and geriatric patients.
  • Social Work Essentials – 30-minute presentations provide practical information on topics including local referral sources, Medicare structure, identifying abuse and advanced directives.

 

Grand Rounds

 

Hospital Grand Rounds are held from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. every Thursday. Regular lecture series include talks from local radiologists, cardiologists and hematologists. Additionally, second-year residents present individual patient cases in conjunction with local specialists.
