Appointment of Housestaff Eligibility

Everyone who is accepted into a residency or fellowship program at Baylor Health Care System is required to successfully complete a background review and initial drug screening, which includes testing for the use of nicotine products. Effective Jan, 1, 2012, Baylor Health Care System and its affiliated entities will not hire individuals who test positive for the use of any nicotine products.

 

Applicants with one of the following qualifications are eligible for appointments to either Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)-accredited or Texas Medical Board (TSBME) or American Dental Association (ADA)-approved programs:

  • Graduates of medical schools in the United States and Canada accredited by the Liaison Committee of Medical Education (LCME)
  • Graduates of colleges of osteopathic medicine in the United States accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA)
  • Graduates of medical schools outside the United States and Canada (IMG – International Medical Graduates) who meet these qualifications:
  • Have received a currently valid certificate from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates prior to appointment
  • Have a full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the US licensing jurisdiction in which they are training
  • Possess a Green card or procure a J-1 visa (H1B vistas are not sponsored by Baylor for Housestaff training. Baylor only sponsors J-1 visas for housestaff training.)
  • Graduates of medical schools outside the United States who have completed a Fifth Pathway program provided by an LCME-accredited medical school
  • Graduates of medical schools in the US and Canada accredited by the LCME who are not US citizens who meet these qualifications:
  • Have a full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a US licensing jurisdiction in which they are training
  • Possess a Green card or procure a J-1 visa (H1B visas are not sponsored by Baylor for Housestaff training. Baylor only sponsors J-1 visas for housestaff training.)
