Radiologic Sciences Program

Program Information

The Baylor University Medical Center Radiologic Sciences Program fuses classroom and clinical experiences together to ensure students receive the knowledge and skills necessary to enter the workplace as an entry-level radiographer, certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
All academic courses are taught in a traditional classroom setting on the campus of Baylor University Medical Center.  Students will rotate throughout the Baylor HealthCare System and Children’s Medical Center in Dallas during their clinical education.  Didactic curriculum is outlined by the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) and can be viewed on their website listed below.  Graduates must meet the patient care, didactic and clinical competencies set forth by the ARRT before they can sit for the ARRT Certification Examination.

Goals:
• The student will master the required radiographic examinations by demonstrating clinical competency in positioning of the patient, setting proper exposure factors, delivering quality patient care, and practicing radiation protection.
• The student will become an effective communicator both in the professional setting utilizing proper medical language and in patient interactions using clear, concise age-appropriate communication.
• The student will develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills; allowing him/her to use independent judgment to obtain optimal images and deliver quality patient care.
• The student will develop and/or maintain professionalism during their education as well as evaluate the importance of professional growth and development.
• The student will be prepared to pass the national certification examination and enter the workforce as an entry-level radiographer.
