Decentralized Technicians - Universal ICU
In addition to the Main Pharmacy and Satellite Pharmacies, the Baylor Pharmacy features Pyxis technology in each nursing unit to provide the latest in automated point-of-access medication distribution and inventory control. Medications are stored on the floor safely and in close proximity to the patients who need them.
Each Pyxis unit interfaces with the Main Pharmacy to track usage and withdrawals in real-time to assure that the appropriate medications are available to the patient at all times.
"I like the idea of knowing my meds and the side effects and assisting the nurses and patients. The nurses really depend on Pharmacy with drug interaction questions. Opportunity is the number one thing about working in the Pharmacy. You can grow in so many areas, continue your schooling. And once you're here, you can move around. It's very rewarding to get recognized for what you do."
Debra Smith, CPhT - Technician Supervisor, Decentralized Services, 15 years with the Baylor family, 11 with the Pharmacy
