Marianne Veach, PharmD, BCPS - Clinical Pharmacist, Critical Care, over 3 years with the Baylor family
“I actually get to do what I was trained to do, work with Nurses and Doctors to make decisions on patient care. It makes me feel like I’m really making a difference in patient care, and that makes my job very rewarding.

Baylor is a great place to work. With such a wide variety of patients, there are vast opportunities and areas to get involved in and utilize your skills. Everyone finds their niche. You have a lot of opportunity to excel."

Robert Portinari, PharmD - Clinical Pharmacist, Critical Care, 1 year with the Baylor family
“I began as a Pharmacy Resident. At Baylor, I really got experience fast, working directly with Physicians and Clinical Pharmacists in internal medicine, critical care, neonatal medicine, cardiology, infectious disease, ambulatory care – you get multiple experiences in one year that you wouldn’t necessarily get as a staff position in another hospital.

Being a part of the 'big team' approach to patient care is very successful. We have a very good working relationship with the Physicians, Nurses and other Allied Health professionals.

If you want to work in a challenging atmosphere, where you work with great resources and great people to help you grow, Baylor is the place to be.”

Debra Smith, CPhT - Technician Supervisor, Decentralized Services, 15 years with the Baylor family, 11 with the Pharmacy
“I like the idea of knowing my meds and the side effects and assisting the nurses and patients. The nurses really depend on Pharmacy with drug interaction questions.

Opportunity is the number one thing about working in the Pharmacy. You can grow in so many areas, continue your schooling. And once you’re here, you can move around. It’s very rewarding to get recognized for what you do."

Arnold Hinojosa, RPh - Decentralized Pharmacist, Critical Care, 23 years with the Baylor family
“Technology enables Pharmacists to really increase the effectiveness of our role. Baylor makes sure we have access to top equipment. Our new Pyxis system allows us to check on medication before it's given to patients. It avoids errors without compromising time. We have developed a very effective barrier before medication is dispensed.

The BCON system used to put orders in is also very effective. If there are any special orders or consultation orders, these go into the system and I am notified in real-time. Putting information immediately in my hands makes things very efficient.

I really enjoy the environment here. It's very friendly. We focus on solving problems, no matter what they are, by working together. The physician-pharmacist relationship is awesome. Quality is very important at Baylor. Everyone is encouraged to be their best.”

Rashed Khaleque, RPh - Lead Pharmacist, Main Pharmacy, 3 years with the Baylor family
“Everything happens here. We work as a big team. Very complex and dynamic. But we get things done right and on time. Everything we do focuses on delivering the best patient care. If anything is happening in the field of pharmacy, it’s happening here at Baylor.

We are very proud of what we do. And we’re able to always keep learning. The technology here is so advanced. Baylor keeps us up on the latest.

There’s something going on you have to feel. Being in a place like Baylor feels so right to me. If you’re not here, you’re missing out.”

Edilia Solis - Pharmacy Operation Coordinator, Investigational Drug Service, 20 years with the Baylor family
“In a retail setting, you spend a lot of time dealing with insurance agencies. You’re more of a customer service role than being in health care. In the hospital setting, you really get to use your educational training. You don’t feel like a machine. You get to use analytical skills.

If you’re a motivated person and you want to grow, this is the right place. You see a true diversity of medicine here. In retail, you’re only seeing one facet of patient care.”
