The Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas Pharmacy
 |
At Baylor, our pharmacists are instrumental in delivering the best care possible. And our pharmacy provides our staff access to advanced technologies, continuing education and promising opportunities for personal and professional growth.
At Baylor, you can be your best with a system that supports you with choices rich in learning and cross-functional training. Because Baylor's Department of Pharmacy is an integral part of so many programs and departments within the medical center, its members play a key role in the interdisciplinary teams that provide patient care.
Our 14,000 square feet Main Pharmacy includes the nerve center of pharmacy operations, a Class 10,000 sterile products laboratory, an Investigational Drug Services area, and a Drug Information Center.
The medical center's main pharmacy is augmented by five satellite pharmacies in the adult intensive care unit, blood and marrow transplantation unit, both surgical suites, and the neonatal intensive care unit. All the pharmacy areas are staffed by pharmacists and certified pharmacy technicians.
Our decentralized services are provided by service line teams which include staff pharmacists, clinical pharmacists, clinical specialists, and technicians in the areas of critical care, internal medicine/surgery, solid organ transplant, ambulatory care, women's and children's health, oncology and cardiology. The staff in these areas are directly engaged in providing pharmaceutical care to our patients and serve as an immediate resource for the medical and nursing staffs concerning drug information and drug therapy review. Additional services provided by the department include a pharmacokinetic consult service, drug therapy management, formulary management, therapeutic substitution, patient education, drug information, protocol development, and TPN monitoring.
The Baylor Pharmacy Department also provides support services for clinical research involving investigational drugs. Major areas of research include solid organ transplantation, blood and marrow transplantation, neonatology, anesthesia, and dermatology. Our pharmacists, in conjunction with the Institutional Review Board, help to assure that policies and procedures for the safe use of these drugs are established and followed.
