The Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas Pharmacy
Decentralized Pharmacists- Cardiology/Telemetry

Working with nurses and physicians to review admission diagnoses, medication histories, patient problems and more, Pharmacists here work hand in hand with Baylor's cardiac physician and nursing staffs.

Working independently on the floor but interfacing with all parties, Pharmacists provide critical information on new drugs, new uses for older drugs, interaction awareness, administration issues as well as therapeutic outcome and adverse effect monitoring.

"Technology enables Pharmacists to really increase the effectiveness of our role. Baylor makes sure we have access to top equipment. Our new Pyxis system allows us to check on medication before it's given to patients. It avoids errors without compromising time. We have developed a very effective barrier before medication is dispensed.

The BCON system used to put orders in is also very effective. If there are any special orders or consultation orders, these go into the system and I am notified in real-time. Putting information immediately in my hands makes things very efficient. I really enjoy the environment here. It's very friendly. We focus on solving problems, no matter what they are, by working together. The physician-pharmacist relationship is awesome. Quality is very important at Baylor. Everyone is encouraged to be their best."
