About Our Program
This 4-5 day program is open to all professionals of the health care team, including physicians, nurses, social workers, dietitians, pharmacists, physical therapists, case managers and others with present or planned involvement in the management and education of individuals with diabetes. Multi-disciplined health care teams that are interested in organizing or improving a diabetes patient education program in a clinic and/or hospital are especially encouraged to attend. Professionals preparing to take the Certified Diabetes Educator (C.D.E.) examination will find this course facilitates their study. This program meets the course requirements to instruct in an American Diabetes Association (ADA) recognized program.
At the completion of the program, participants will be able to return to their practice settings with the skills to develop and present self-management programs to individuals and groups. This is an approved continuing education program.
Participants in each program will have the unique opportunity to experience life as an individual with diabetes- learning how to balance food intake, activity, medications, and develop a pattern of control. Threaded throughout the programs are case studies, interactive activities and hands on demonstrations that will fully involve each participant for a maximum learning experience.
Programs are conducted at the Ruth Collins Diabetes Center.
