Baylor University Medical Center Dietetic Internship Program

Our Mission

The Dietetic Internship Program at Baylor University Medical Center (BUMC) located in Dallas, Texas offers a ten-month training program for individuals who have met the academic requirements by the American Dietetic Association. Since the graduation of the first class in 1955, the program has maintained accreditation status from the American Dietetic Association.

The BUMC Dietetic Internship Program's mission is to provide an atmosphere in which the dietetic intern can apply and augment the knowledge base acquired from the academic setting. The program strives to prepare qualified dietetic professionals by imparting to each student the educational standards established by the American Dietetic Association.

The accepted principles of clinical nutrition, food service management, and community dietetics are taught on an individualized level. This program is designed to graduate students who are entry-level professionals and who possess an advanced knowledge base, professional skills, and the ability to think independently.

Successful completion of the program equips the intern with the knowledge and the ability to apply that knowledge in the dietetic field as measured by the Registration Examination for Dietitians. The graduate of BUMC's Dietetic Internship Program is prepared to practice in multiple areas of dietetics including food service systems management, therapeutic clinical practice, and normal and preventive nutrition in a variety of settings.

It is necessary for the program to maintain commitments from professionals within the Medical Center, and the local community as well, to operate in a financially viable fashion.
