Established in 2005 and renovated in 2010, the Seeger Surgical Simulation Center provides first through fifth-year surgical residents with a place to practice skills, such as the Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery (FLS), camera manipulation, and knot tying and suturing. It also features virtual reality laparoscopic case training, as well as ultrasound, upper endoscopy, bronchoscopy, and colonoscopy procedural training.
As a place of learning, the Center assists residents in completing the FLS competency certification curriculum, mandated by the American Board of Surgeons (ABS), and passing the FLS proctored exam.
Because simulation is a tool to improve quality of care, Baylor is committed to growing the Center by increasing the variety of training curricula and investing in the equipment and space needed to better train surgeons.
