Baylor University Medical Center Pathology Residency
Program Information

The Pathology Residency Training Program at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas is committed to excellence. We are fully accredited by the ACGME to train 18 residents in total. The program is structured to provide strong education and experience in preparation for a pathology career in either an academic or a private practice setting. To carry out its objectives, the Residency Program emphasizes all aspects of practical hands-on training, didactic instruction, and clinicopathologic research. Under the supervision of the faculty, the resident physicians learn how to choose the appropriate techniques to study a specimen and then implement the procedures by which a diagnosis can be reached. The fully approved, comprehensive four-year program (AP and CP) includes structured rotations in anatomic and clinical pathology as well as elective time.

Anatomic Pathology
The anatomic pathology program includes a rich and versatile surgical pathology service, autopsy pathology (including forensic pathology), and cytopathology (including aspiration biopsy cytology). Areas of subspecialty include electron microscopy, nephropathology, immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization, and histochemistry of muscle and nerves.

Clinical Pathology
The clinical pathology program features laboratory experience in transfusion medicine, chemistry, hematology, microbiology, and immunology. Subspecialty areas include proteinology, toxicology, virology, special hematology, and flow cytometry.
