| Conferences |
Wednesday morning is the main conference day, and this time is "protected" for the residents so they may attend. The general schedule is as follows:
7:30 a.m. Tumor Board
8:30 a.m. Grand rounds (held twice each month) or
Perinatal Morbidity & Mortality (held once each month) or
Gynecology Morbidity & Mortality (once each month)
Journal Club (once each month)
9:45 a.m. Core lecture for the residents
10:20 a.m. Core lecture for the residents
10:20 a.m. Neonatology Conference (once each quarter)
The didactic core lectures cover not only obstetrical and gynecological care, but also primary care issues affecting the practitioner. Residents also attend lectures on the business and political aspects of medicine. The core curriculum for the didactic lectures is taken directly from the CREOG Educational Objectives. Attending physicians from all disciplines within the institution give these lectures. In addition outside lecturers are brought in to participate several times a year in lectures.
Research
Baylor fosters the commitment to Scholarship defined as: discovery with peer reviewed funding or by publication of original research in a peer-reviewed journal, dissemination as evidenced by review articles or chapters in textbooks and application as evidenced by the publication or presentation. The residents regularly participate with the teaching staff in clinical discussions, rounds, journal clubs and research conferences in a manner that promotes a spirit of inquiry and scholarship. Baylor supports residents' participation in all scholarly opportunities available at the institution.
Residents complete a research project during the program. Senior residents present their research project at our annual Julian Wells Lectureship and Scientific Session. Outside faculty who attend this citywide conference act as judges in selecting the most exceptional project for the Devereaux Award. Other awards presented on Julian Wells Day include the Strother Award for academic achievement and the Joseph Warren Award for commitment to excellence, balance, and leadership.
