How To Apply

We accept five residents into the program each year. Applications for the upcoming year will be accepted through the Electronic Residency Application System (ERAS).

Your application is considered complete and ready for review when we receive your completed ERAS application which includes your medical school transcript, at least two letters of recommendation, your USMLE Step 1 and 2 scores, and your photograph. Only after your application is complete will it be reviewed and consideration given for a possible interview. If you are a marginal candidate, your application will not be reviewed until we have received your Dean's letter. Even though our deadline is the first Monday after November 1, our interview slots are usually filled by that time and if you fit our criteria, you will be placed on a waiting list.

Interviews
Interviews can be arranged through Meri Jane Kiser in Dr. Inzer's office at (214) 820-6226 or (800) 940-6913. About 12 applicants are interviewed on each interview day. We have six interview days each year, the second and third Fridays of November and December and the first and second Fridays of January.

The residents host a get-together the night prior to the interviews in one of their homes. Interviews usually start at 8:00am and last until 1:00pm. The morning begins with a short presentation of our residency program by one of our attending/faculty staff. Following the presentation, half of the candidates tour the hospital, while the others interview individually with Dr. Inzer, our program director, and three other members of our selection committee. Each interview lasts approximately 15 minutes. After the interview and tour of the hospital, a luncheon will be served which will give the candidates an opportunity to visit with the residents and faculty.

Selection Process
The selection committee includes the chairman of the department, the residency program director, members of the faculty/attending staff, and one resident from each year level. Every application is studied, and the selection committee discusses every interviewee. The final ranking for the match is a committee process; every member of the committee helps decide how to rank the applicants.
