Baylor University Medical Center Internal Medicine Residency   How To Apply   Regardless of the yardstick used, BUMC's internal medicine residents receive outstanding marks. For many years, their ABIM pass rate has been 100%. Those residents who desire subspecialty training are sought after whether they choose to remain at Baylor or seek education at other institutions. Many of the outstanding general internists and specialists on the BUMC staff are graduates of our training program. In recent years, BUMC residents have received subspecialty training at Duke and Colorado (immunology); Mayo Clinic (rheumatology and cardiology); UCLA and NIH (hematology/oncology); George Washington University (general internal medicine); UT San Antonio, Nebraska, Oklahoma, UCSD, Emory, Mid-American Heart (cardiology); UT Southwestern (nephrology, ID, oncology); Iowa (pulmonary/critical care); Oklahoma (endocrinology); Johns Hopkins (critical care) and many others. Baylor University Medical Center participates in the National Resident Matching Program. Deadline dates for enrollment of U.S. seniors at LCME medical schools are available from the NRMP at (202) 828-0566. After you register with the NRMP, file your application through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). It is important that you include your NRMP registration number on the application, together with all other required documentation. We require three letters of recommendation—if possible, one should be from your chief of internal medicine. We also require USMLE scores. Step I results are mandatory and step II results are desirable. However, we will interview and rank you without a step II score if that result is not available before our ranking deadline. After your application is complete, the review committee will review your file and select applicants for interviews. Deadline for receipt of your completed application is December 1, 2006. All applications will be received through ERAS only. Appointment of Housestaff-Eligibility Applicants with one of the following qualifications are eligible for appointment to either ACGME-accredited or TSBME or ADA approved programs: •  Graduates of medical schools in the United States and Canada accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME). •  Graduates of colleges of osteopathic medicine in the United States accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA). •  Graduates of medical schools outside the United States and Canada (International Medical Graduates - IMGs) who meet the following qualifications: Have received a currently valid certificate from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates prior to appointment. Have a full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a US licensing jurisdiction in which they are training. Possess a Green card or procure a J-1 visa. H1B visas are not sponsored by BUMC for Housestaff training; Baylor sponsors only J-1 visas for housestaff training.   •  Graduates of medical schools outside the United States who have completed a Fifth Pathway program provided by an LCME-accredited medical school. •  Graduates of medical schools in the United States and Canada accredited by the (LCME) who are not United States citizens who meet the following qualifications: Have a full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a US licensing jurisdiction in which they are training. Possess a Green card or procure a J-1 visa. H1B visas are not sponsored by BUMC for Housestaff training. Baylor sponsors only J-1 visas for housestaff training.
