Baylor University Medical Center’s Department of Surgery offers a diverse, high-quality residency program with a strong emphasis on surgical education for both residents and attending teaching staff.
Recent AMA statistics point out that seven out of ten residents go into private practice, so Baylor residents are schooled not only in academia, but also in the practical aspects of a general surgery practice. This is accomplished through 35 teaching staff members, some of whom are nationally and internationally known, who use Baylor University Medical Center as their primary hospital. Each staff member is assigned a general surgery teaching service and regularly participates in the residency training program. Our program is integrated with John Peter Smith Medical Center in Fort Worth, a county hospital located 35 miles from Baylor. The Baylor residents staff four services under full-time faculty supervision.
Baylor University Medical Center’s formidable combination of professional, educational, and technological capabilities make it a challenging and beneficial environment for America’s top residents. I invite you to learn more about the Department of Surgery, and how we can help you realize the professional goals you’ve set for yourself.
