Baylor University Medical Center General Surgery Residency
Curriculum
 

During their five years in the general surgery department, residents spend about 44 months training in general surgery; 75 percent of the time is spent on private services and 25 percent of the time in a county hospital.

First-year residents typically spend seven months on the general surgery service and then complete five months of specialty rotations, including SICU, anesthesia, burns, and Pediatric surgery.

 
The following rotations are available for residents in the general surgery program:
· Pediatric Surgery
· Cardiothoracic Surgery
· Urology
· Plastic Surgery (elective)
· Colon/Rectal Surgery
· Anesthesiology
· Surgical ICU
· Liver and Kidney Transplantation
· Burn Unit
 

Elective rotations in general surgery, usually lasting one month, are available to senior students with the approval of their dean. On-campus housing is available without cost for students on elective surgical assignments.
