Baylor University Medical Center General Surgery Residency
How To Apply

We accept thirteen residents into the program each year—eight categorical and five preliminary. Applications for the upcoming year will be accepted through the Electronic Residency Application System (ERAS).

Your application is considered complete and ready for review once we receive your completed ERAS application, the dean’s letter from your medical school, your medical school transcript, three letters of recommendation, your USMLE Step 1 and 2 scores, and your photograph.

Interviews

The day of interviews for potential residents begins at 11:30 a.m. with lunch, followed by the Chairman's presentation, Dr. Jones, and additional presentations from attending staff. After the presentations, the candidates tour the hospital. Beginning at 1:30 p.m., interview sessions begin and continue until 3:30 p.m. (each candidate's interview lasts approximately 30 minutes). Following the last interview is a reception. At the reception, all of the candidates will have an opportunity to interact directly with our residents.

Interviews can be arranged through Peggy Pazos in Dr. Jones’s office at (214) 820-4543.

Selection Process

The selection committee includes the chairman/residency program director and members of the faculty/attending staff and senior residents. Every application is studied, and the selection committee discusses every interviewee. The final ranking for the match is a committee process; every member of the committee helps decide how to rank the applicants.
