Nuclear Medicine Technology Program

 

 

 

The Nuclear Medicine Technology Program is a full-time, hospital-based program offering a certificate of completion after meeting all academic and clinical requirements. The program lasts 20 months, beginning annually in August. Classroom and clinical hours range from 7:00am to 4:30pm, Monday through Friday.

 

All academic courses are taught in a traditional classroom setting on the campus of Baylor University Medical Center. Students will rotate through a nuclear medicine pharmacy, Children’s Medical Center and clinical sites within the Baylor Health Care System and throughout the Dallas-Ft. Worth area.

 

Upon successful completion of the program, students are eligible to take the examinations offered by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) and American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). After passing this exam, graduates will be certified as Nuclear Medicine Technologists.

 

The Nuclear Medicine Technology Program prerequisite courses are listed below. They must be completed with a final course grade of C or better. Priority will be given to the applicants who have completed these courses by the spring semester of the application cycle. It is highly recommended that all prerequisite courses (with the exception of the English, Humanities and Social Sciences Courses) be completed within the last 5 years.

Anatomy and Physiology 1 & 2 (w/Laboratory) 

 

Chemistry (w/Laboratory)

 

College Algebra

 

General Physics

 

Humanities Course:  Modern Languages, History, Philosophy, Religion, the Arts and Literature

 

Social Sciences Course:  Psychology, Sociology, Political Science, Anthropology and History. Also includes Archaeology, Education, Geography, Law and Criminal Justice

The Baylor University Medical Center Nuclear Medicine Program is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Nuclear Medicine Technology (JRCNMT).

Selection Criteria

 

The Nuclear Medicine Technology Program reviews each completed application and selects the best qualified applicants annually. It is imperative that applicants meet all admission requirements.

 

Upon receipt of each application packet, the program will initiate the investigative background check for the applicant. The school will adhere to the Baylor Health Care System process for consumer reporting as each application is received. HireRight, the consumer reporting company, will notify any applicants that are disqualified during this process.

 

Students are selected on a point system. Points are given based upon the prerequisite grades, healthcare experience, statements of recommendations, personal narrative and the interview.
