Dietetic Internship Program
The Dietetic Internship Program at Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas in Dallas, Texas, offers a 10-month training program with a Clinical/Nutrition Therapy Concentration Area for individuals who have met the academic requirements of the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND). Since the graduation of the first class in 1955, the program has maintained accreditation status through ACEND.
The Baylor Dallas Dietetic Internship Program’s mission is to provide an atmosphere in which the dietetic intern can apply and augment the knowledge base acquired from the academic setting. The program strives to prepare qualified registered dietitian nutritionists by imparting to each student the educational standards established by the ACEND.
The applications of accepted principles of clinical, food service management, and community nutrition are taught on an individualized level. The interns also attend classes taught by physicians, dietitians, department managers, and guest speakers throughout the year to augment the intern's current knowledge and prepare the intern for hands-on experiences. This approach reflects the belief that this will result in graduates who are entry-level professionals who possess an advanced knowledge base, professional skills and an ability to think independently.
Successful completion of the dietetic internship requires each intern to satisfactorily meet all educational competencies. Interns requiring additional learning experiences to meet competencies will be allowed up to 15 months from the beginning of the program (by the end of October of the following year) to fulfill graduation requirements. After finishing the dietetic internship at Baylor Dallas, the intern should be well-prepared to take the registration examination for dietitians and function as a dietetic professional. We are proud of our graduates and the 89% pass rate on the registration examination for the past five years.
