Dietetic Internship Program

The Dietetic Internship Program at Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas located in Dallas, Texas, offers a 10-month training program with a Clinical/Nutrition Therapy Concentration Area, for individuals who have met the academic requirements of the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND).

Selection and Final Acceptance Criteria


The selection criteria for candidates for the Dietetic Internship Program are:  


  • Bachelor's degree by start date of the internship program.
  • Completion of an ACEND-approved Didactic Program in Dietetics.
  • Verification Statement of Completion of Academic requirements or
  • Declaration of Intent to Complete Academic requirements.
  • Overall grade point average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale.
  • Dietetic/nutrition-related course work grade point average 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale.
  • Activities that demonstrate leadership involvement and the ability to work well with people.
  • Foodservice and/or hospital work experience are preferred. Other work experience is helpful.
  • Reference letters from professors and employers. (Two professors in food and nutrition and one current or recent employer.)
  • Applicant's personal letter.


Final acceptance is contingent upon:


  • Submission of a Verification Statement of Completion of Academic requirements within 30 days of the start date of the program.
  • It is preferred that DPD coursework has been completed within the last five years; however, candidates with recent relevant work experience will be considered.
  • Successful completion of Baylor Scott & White Health's physical, drug screen (including nicotine) and background check (going back 10 years) per Baylor Scott & White policy. Any adverse findings may result in candidate being denied final acceptance in the Dietetic Internship Program.
  • Health insurance is required of all students. Students must acquire insurance on their own. Proof of automobile liability insurance for travel is required of all students. Professional liability insurance can be obtained for one year. Information regarding where the professional liability insurance can be obtained will be provided prior to the internship. 


Baylor University Medical Center Dietetic Internship Program participates in the Dietetic Internship Centralized Application System (DICAS).




  • Access DICAS at (NOTE: Complete the online DICAS application according to instructions by designated deadline) 
  • If you have additional questions regarding the online application process, visit ACEND's website regarding common questions and requirements associated with the computer matching process and/or email
  • DICAS fee: $45 for the first application submitted and $20 for each additional application.
  • Complete a personal statement in 1,000 words or less.  Address the following questions:


    • Why do you want to enter the dietetics profession?
    • What are some experiences that have helped to prepare you for your career?
    • What are your short-term and long-term goals?
    • What are your strengths and weaknesses or areas needing improvement?
    • What is your reason(s) for wanting to come to Baylor?


  • Official Transcripts from all colleges and universities attended; signed and completed Declaration of Intent to complete academic requirements OR signed and completed Verification Statement of academic requirements if applicant has already received a degree should be submitted to DICAS online. 
  • Students accepted into the program will need to provide all official transcripts and Verification Statement within the first month of the program.
  • When completing the application form, applicants must include the name and contact information (specifically an e-mail address) for each reference. This will trigger an e-mail message requesting completion of a reference form.  The form will be completed on-line.
  • Applicants must also register online at for computer matching and select dietetic priority choices by 11:59 p.m. Central Time on Feb. 15, 2018. There is a $55.00 computer matching fee.
  • Applicants must complete the Primary Site Preference Form to indicate which Baylor hospital site is preferred. The form should be mailed along with the application fee to the address noted below.

Application Fee ($75) must be sent to the Baylor Dallas Dietetic Internship and postmarked by Feb. 15, 2018, for application to be processed. Note, this is a separate fee from that required by DICAS and DND Digital (for computer matching).
