Baylor University Medical Center Medical Oncology Fellowship
Facilities and Resources

The medical oncology inpatient unit is located on the sixth floor of the Roberts wing and is a 32-bed unit staffed by specialized oncology nurses. The bone marrow transplant unit, consisting of 27 beds, is located on the fourth floor of the Collins Hospital. The inpatient hospice unit is on the fifth floor of the Jonsson wing of BUMC.

The library at Baylor University Medical Center contains more than 40,000 volumes and 597 journals. Computer resource areas are available in the institutional library, as well as in the Department of Medicine Library and the Sammons Cancer Center. Computerized literature searches are readily available (and frequently used) in the main library and Sammons Cancer Center.

The fellows have shared access to computers for literature searches, word processing, storage and retrieval of laboratory tests and data. The major journals for internal medicine, oncology, and hematology are available at the Sammons Cancer Center and the Department of Medicine Library.

Fellows are provided with current oncology textbooks as well as the MKSAP Subspecialty Oncology books. In addition, they receive copies of the excellent end-of-life care monographs recently published by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Updated readings lists and a collection of histopathologic slides are reviewed regularly with fellows at teaching sessions and conferences.
