Over the course of this program, fellows will treat virtually the entire array of solid tumor and hematologic malignancies in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Department faculty see more than 2,000 adult patients (40 percent Medicare) with newly diagnosed neoplastic diseases each year at Baylor University Medical Center. As patients are placed on clinical trials, fellows become familiar with design and interpretation of experimental protocols as well as the requirements of institutional review boards and the experience of obtaining informed consent from patients.
