Volunteers-in-Medicine

Since 1998, the Volunteers-in-Medicine (VIM) program has provided HealthTexas Provider Network (HTPN) physicians and staff with opportunities to take part in the reduction of health disparities throughout our community and beyond.

Innovative programs such as Project Access Dallas, Charity Clinic Volunteerism, International Medical Missions, Private Practice Charity Care, and Committee Pay Donations allow HTPN physicians and staff to donate time, services, and money to improve the health status of underserved Dallas/Fort Worth communities. These programs also enable HTPN to promote physician leadership in the community as well as create a culture of service within HTPN. In Fiscal year 2009, 35% of all HTPN-employed physicians participated in the VIM program.

Under development are exciting new volunteer programs aimed at specialty physicians. Through these new programs, office-based sub-specialists will have the opportunity to see referrals from HTPN community health physicians or staff Specialty Volunteer Clinics (organized by specialty) at HTPN charitable clinics like Baylor Family Medicine at Worth Street and CitySquare (formerly Central Dallas Ministries). For surgeons and anesthesiologists, a unique collaboration with local surgical centers will allow volunteers to provide ambulatory surgical procedures during designated weekend events.
